100 Gyros later - Santorini
As our ferry cruised into the Santorini archipelago, the hundreds of tourists who had been sleeping for the duration of the trip, gathered around Sam and I on the deck in awe of, arguably, the most idyllic Greek island.
I wasn’t sure whether Santorini would be worth the hype it receives, but the white towns stacked atop of sheer cliffs, overlooking a turquoise sea and incredible geological formations weren’t a bad place to celebrate my birthday.
Our apartment had a balcony “with a view” of the washing lines, and the main road looked straight into our window, but I guess that’s what you should expect from booking a budget hotel.
My favourite parts were seeing the Barbie movie at the open-air cinema, and the hike along the coastline in the heat of the day from Fira to Oia. Sam’s favourite thing was the gyros (to add to his tally of at least 70 consumed in our two months in Greece).
Anyway, it’s everything you’d expect from a busy island in the middle of the Aegean Sea, and after living on a secluded estate on Milos for the previous six weeks, it was fun to be a tourist, spend all our money, and do some people watching.
